Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the death of C.S. Lewis. I don't know about you, but I have read the Chronicles of Narnia series many, many, many times in my life. I love these books...and I think they shaped my belief system as a child without my even knowing it.
When asked, C.S. Lewis said..."The Lion all began with a picture of a Faun carrying an umbrella and parcels in a snowy wood. This picture had been in my mind since I was about sixteen. Then one day, when I was about forty, I said to myself: 'Let's try to make a story about it.'" How awesome is that? It's never to late for greatness I guess.
Today I am grateful for really good children's literature.
And here are are a few bonus quotes just for fun...
"A cold, self-righteous prig who goes regularly to church may be far nearer to Hell than a prostitute." Amen to that Brother Lewis!
"I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else."
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive."
