SPAM

Dear Friends and Family,

I have made a few modifications to the settings of my Blog today and I wanted to keep you informed (all 3 -4 of you).

I have been getting some "Anonymous" comments lately; I suspect that this is due to the fact that my Blog can be accessed from a link on my friend Lori's Blog. Lori and her husband Brent are dear friends of mine and they have been in the process of adopting some beautiful little babies from Haiti for the past few years. When the earthquake hit, you can imagine that the desire and need to get those children to safety became even more important. You can link to Lori's Blog to read the whole story - and I hope that you do because it is very inspiring - but with the increased media attention that Lori's organization has received recently, I suspect she is also receiving increased traffic on her Blog. And from the nature and timing of the some of the Spam I have received, my educated guess is that my increased traffic is also coming from Lori's Blog.

Having said all that, a word on what I hope to achieve with my Blog. I have never wanted to have one of those Blogs where hundreds of people read it every day, and where I would be expected to contribute daily witticisms and thought provoking posts. I mostly wanted to have a Blog to serve as a journal/scrapbook of sorts and to provide an outlet for some of my ramblings. I also wanted to be able to share that with a select group of friends and family. Select being the key word. I do not mind if a friend or family member shares my Blog address with another friend or family member, because I trust that they will only share it with people that they trust. What I do worry about is random strangers accessing my Blog and seeing the pictures of my family and reading my thoughts, when I do not know who they are and do not trust their motivation.

So far this has not been an issue. However, in the last few weeks there have been some comments from anonymous posters, with links to other sites. I get anonymous comments from time to time, but I usually know by the context of the comment that they are from loved ones. These recent posts though, were obviously from people I did not know - I have removed them. I think it goes without saying, but I will say it anyway, that you should never click on a link that you don't trust. So all of you kind people that read my Blog, please don't click on any links in comments you might see on my Blog from 'Anonymous' commenters.

In an effort to cut down on this traffic, I have enabled a few features. 1. You will know have to type in a word verification when leaving a comment. If you have trouble with this let me know and I can walk you through how to do it. 2. All comments will now have to be approved by me before being posted. This is just so I can stop any anonymous comments that may have links to weird viruses or tacky sites. 3. I have changed the setting on my Blog that made it accessible by internet searches. i.e. you shouldn't be able to Google 'Princess Heather' and find it anymore. Hopefully none of these things will deter you from reading my Blog from time to time, but I think they are necessary to keep out the 'crazies'.

Whew, now that all of that is out of the way.

I hope everyone has a great day, and please keep checking back for my Sundance 2010 post and my Top Ten Movies of 2009 post.

Kind Regards,

Princess Heather

I am sorry you are getting crazy comments. That makes me sad. I myself have wondered if I should make my blog private but it seems like such a hassle. I have also noticed a lot of other bloggers have switched over to using the program Disqus for their comments, I think it helps avoid those crazy annonymous commenters.

Anyways, enough of my rambling. We love you and I am looking forward to your favorite movies of 2009 post!

Yay! I am so glad that you are using these precautions. Funny though, you may have about 3 comments of the Mexico blog because I always start reading from the bottom where I last left reading. (I have read about Mexico before, just didn't comment on the post.) After I left my comment, I noticed my comment was gone and I needed to fill in the crazy word verification thing. Then typed it again and couldn't figure out why it was not posting. Finally, I realized that I was not reading the message in full, but that when it popped up (again reading from the bottom up, I think I have a disease.)I missed that it had to be reviewed and re-entered it, yet again. :D Haaaa! Silly Kate.
We just talked about you doing this a couple of weeks ago, and I still missed it. A lass, oh well. I love the spam picture. When I first saw the pic I thought it was from our discovery of spam in an envelope packet...also funny.
