I am jumbling a bunch of random thoughts and haps into one post because I am lazy…and tired, and that’s just how I roll.
First off, Kate and I went to a private reception, lecture, book signing, and documentary screening of Jane Goodall’s 'Wild Chimpanzees' last night. She was charming – Dame Jane – that is, not Kate. Although Kate is also charming, but this part of the post is about Jane Goodall. Jane went to Africa in 1960 at the age of 26 to study an animal she had never seen. Pretty brave even by today’s standard. In the course of almost 50 years, she has expanded her passion for chimpanzees to all of God’s creations. She travels 300 days a year bringing her message to young and old alike. I admire her, she inspires me. And I believe in what she inscribed in my book – “Together we can change the world. Jane Goodall”. If you are interested in becoming a part of her organization you can visit http://www.rootsandshoots.org/ or http://www.janegoodall.org/.

Secondly, I have decided to start a new feature called Movie Review Monday. Why? Well, because I see a lot of movies, and I am narcissistic enough to think people may be interested in what I think about them.
I saw two movies in the last week – 'Penelope' and The 'Other Boleyn Girl'.
‘Penelope’ is a modern day fairy tail set in a non-descript city with non-descript citizens. It is about a poor little rich girl who is unfortunate to have been born under a family curse, which destines her to a nose like Kevin Bacons. What? It’s a pig’s nose? Oh, well whatever, at any rate she’s doomed with an ugly nose. The only way for her to be “normal” is for someone that is “of her kind” to fall in love with her and marry her. So her mother parades countless scores of blue-blood suitors through the home in the hopes of finding one that can get past her prominent proboscis. Of course what good fairy tale would be complete without a doomed love affair and dastardly doings by nefarious characters? That’s a rhetorical question. I won’t spoil the ending for you but the moral of the story is – you should love yourself for who you are. Not bad advice if you ask me. I give this movie 3 out of 5 stars.

‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ is based on a novel by the same name which I just read and liked. However the story reads more like a harlequin than like a piece of historical fact, and the movie is even more romance novelesque than the actual novel. I did quite enjoy the richness of the cinematography and art direction though; it is indeed a beautiful movie. The acting is adequate, the script is ok, but there was just some sort of spark missing. I felt like they left out facts that are important to the flow of the story and therefore missed being able to really tell the tale. And believe me the story of Anne Boleyn and Henry the VIII is salacious enough without the need for embellishment of fact. I give this movie 2 ½ stars out of 5.

Hooray for updating your blog! I can quit stalking your blog for a few days now waiting for updates!
First of all, I just received the postcard yesterday afternoon, and I LOVED IT!! Thank you so much for thinking of me. And, yes, she does look beautiful.
I too have waited with bated breath for your return (like a little doggie pacing near the front door, to be honest)! Welcome back, little lamb!
I'm so excited that you got to see Jane Goodall and get a book signed by her. She seems amazing and very inspiring! I also think Kate is charming too. Please give her a hug for me.
So, was James McAvoy his usual darling self in Penelope? I would like to see it, if only for him, because I get teensy crushes on extremely Scottish people who act wonderfully and don't seem remotely Scottish in half of their stuff. You know what I mean? For awhile I had a Ewan crush, but he creeped me out in interviews with what a pervert he is. So James' better interview manners makes me inclined to favor him over Ewan. (And, frankly, I think he's kind of a better actor.) What do you think?
I miss you.
Dianna, James is indeed lovely in Penelope. And he does American in it, and oh so deliciously American is he. I love him. But you already knew that. Also, I still love Ewan, I am sorry that you find him creepy. I didn't see the pervy interview, but it might have just made me like him more, because I tend to like inappropriate men.
